HOW CAN PERCUSSION AFFECT MUSIC

Percussion is type of music involving instruments like drums and instruments such as tambourines, gongs, cymbals, bells, & rattles. These kinds of instruments themselves are also called percussion. They are struck/ Slapped to produce loud sounds, while the other instruments are strummed like guitar or blown into like flute, or have keys that are depressed to produce notes such as piano. Percussions have a distinct voice than the rest instruments are mood uplifting!

Drum

A percussion instrument consisting of a hollow shell or cylinder with a drumhead stretched over one or both ends that is beaten with the hands or with some implement (such as a stick or wire brush)

Xylophone

Xylophone, from Greek xylon and phonē, “wood” and “sound”, percussion instrument consisting of a set of graduated, tuned wooden bars supported at nodal (nonvibrating) points and struck with sticks or padded mallets

Tambourine

Tambourine, small frame drum (one whose shell is too narrow to resonate the sound) having one or two skins nailed or glued to a shallow circular or polygonal frame. The tambourine is normally played with the bare hands and often has attached to it jingles, pellet bells, or snares.

Marimba

Marimba, any of several varieties of xylophone. Marimba is one of many African names for the xylophone, and, because African instruments bearing this name frequently have a tuned calabash resonator for each wooden bar, some ethnomusicologists use the name marimba to distinguish gourd-resonated from other xylophones.

Tabla

A tabla is a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent. Each drum is made of hollowed out wood, clay or metal. The smaller drum (dayan) is used for creating treble and tonal sounds, while the primary function of the larger drum (baya) is for producing bass.

Woodblock

A block of wood engraved in relief, for printing from; woodcut. a print or impression from such a block. a hollow block of hard wood struck with a wooden stick or mallet and used in the percussion section of an orchestra.

Hi-Hat

A hi-hat (hihat, high-hat, etc.) is a combination of two cymbals and a pedal, all mounted on a metal stand. It is a part of the standard drum kit used by drummers in many styles of music including rock, pop, jazz, and blues.

Hang

The Hang is a type of musical instrument called a handpan, fitting into the idiophone class and based on the Caribbean steelpan instrument.

Banjo

A musical instrument with a drumlike body, a fretted neck, and usually four or five strings which may be plucked or strummed.

Congo

The conga drum is a tall, narrow, single-headed drum from Cuba. Congas are staved like barrels. ... Most modern congas have a wooden or fiberglass shell, and a screw-tensioned drumhead. They are usually played in sets of two to four with the fingers and palms of the hand.

Dholak

A two-headed hand drum, Dholak is a folk percussion instrument. Around 45 cm in length and 27 cm in breadth, it is widely used in qawwali, kirtan, lavani and bhangra. The smaller surface of the dholak is made of goat skin for sharp notes while the bigger surface is made of buffalo skin for low pitch.
